In December 2010, 58 people from 18 countries attended a Salzburg Global Seminar to consider the role patients can and should play in healthcare decisions. Today, they publish a statement urging patients and clinicians “to work together to be co-producers of health.”

Professor Glyn Elwyn provided the keynote Catharina Pijls Lecture at CAPHRI, School for Public Health and Primary Care, Maastricht University, on 30th November 2010. The lecture was entitled “Choice, options, preferences: learning a new language in health care” and addressed the change in discourse in clinical encounters as we move towards an increasingly patient centric model of medicine, as signalled by the phrase 'no decision about me, without me'.

Visit from Harvard experts in shared decision making marks the launch of MAGIC programme

Last week, Professor Glyn Elwyn and the Decision Laboratory had the honour of hosting visiting Professors Albert Mulley and Michael Barry from Harvard University, Massachusetts General Hospital, Boston. Both belong to the Foundation for Informed Medical Decision Making, where Professor Barry is the President and Professor Mulley is the Co-Founder.  Cardiff University works closely with the Foundation to conduct pioneering research in shared decision making.

Decision Laboratory patient decision support intervention, Prosdex has been recommended in updated prostate screening guidance for GPs and patients developed by the NHS Cancer Screening Programmes.
